Dino 246 GTS Restoration

One of 5 UK RHD 'Chairs & Flares'

This Dino GTS was supplied new by Maranello Concessionaires and their records show it was first delivered in March 1974 to Mr Thompson. Originally specified in Rosso Bordeaux over Beige, this car was originally specified with electric windows and the addition of both the extremely rare and highly desirable wider, sand-cast Campagnolo alloy wheels, flared arches and the leather ‘Daytona’ seats. As such this example forms the ultimate roof-off, Dino specification; a "Chairs and Flares" GTS, built as one of just 5 UK RHD examples of such.

The latest custodian required the very best GTS that could be found and as such, commissioned a restoration by DK Engineering to bring the car up to world class standards. Having spent several years in a brighter red hue, it was decided the car should return once more to its original configuration. The car was stripped down at DK ahead of the metalwork stage; all paint removed and taken back to bare metal to ensure the shape and condition of the car were the best possible basis for the restoration care of Bodylines

The car was refinished in the original Rosso Bordeaux 20-R-351 Salchi courtesy of Spray-Tec in Northampton before returning to DK for final assembly. During the time the car was away for paint, the engine received a comprehensive rebuild at DK, ready to be installed upon its return. After test fitment of the chrome work, the bumpers and window surrounds were sent off to be chrome plated.

After the engine installation, the GTS was ready for trim, leaving us for its visit to O’Rourke Coachtrimmers for the original Pelle Beige VM 3234 leather with Nero ‘Daytona’ inserts. After final assembly was completed, the car received a series of extended road tests to ensure

all was in order prior to delivery to the customer.
