DK Engineering participated at the Spa six hour race meeting again this year. We entered two MGB’s (numbers 38 & 68). The white car (525 GOO) was driven by Jeremy Cottingham, David Cooke and Nick Finburgh. 2 GLL (38) was driven by James Cottingham and Rowan Atkinson. Both cars qualified well with 2 GLL being 29th on the grid and 525 GOO 46th on the grid. Rowan started the race in 2GLL and David in 525 GOO. Both cars managed to get away to a good start without incident. At around the 20 minute mark Rowan had a small moment at eau rouge with the car ending up having a brush with the wall. A pit stop was required to change the front tyres that had been flat spotted. At this point 2 GLL was lying 72nd. All the drivers put in good consistent efforts allowing 2 GLL to finish 13th overall, a remarkable comeback. Unfortunately an engine problem meant that that 525 GOO had to retire with just 20 minutes to the finish with a suspected broken con rod - due to 70% of the race having been completed this meant that the team still had a result of 45th overall. Over the course of the weekend James and Jeremy also managed to gain a win and a second place respectively in two half hour HSCC races, with James setting the fastest lap of the weekend and winning by around 16 seconds.
