The Spa 6 Hours meeting immediately follows the Goodwood Revival. However, whilst Goodwood with its unchanged circuit and paddock offers so much more than just Motorsport, Spa is Historic Motorsport for the purist. The circuit is challenging and rewarding for drivers and exposes any weakness in race preparation especially for those cars competing in the legendary 6 Hour race.
DK as ever had strong representation at the event, with James Cottingham piloting the blue DHG #89 AC Cobra, in his 13th Spa 6 Hour race, (the last three having been in AC Cobras) and also a 1 hour stint in DK's Ecurie Ecosse Tojeiro Jaguar, fresh from its podium finish at Goodwood. Harvey Stanley, was also participating in the event with an MGB for the 6 Hour Race and the Semi-Lightweight E-Type in Sunday morning's 90 minute GT Race.
Both DK drivers completed the gruelling 6 Hour race, James sharing with Max Girardo and Olivier Hart brought the Cobra home 6th overall and 2nd in Class (the first Cobra to finish), whilst Harvey and co-driver Timothy Mahapatra were the 3rd MGB to finish having gained 42 places from their grid position.
Misfortune blighted the other races with a slow pitstop for the Tojeiro (due to vaporisation meaning it would not restart easily) dropping James from the lead down to 4th place and an unforeseen safety car causing Harvey in the E-Type to miss the pit window by seconds and therefore earning a penalty which would drop Timothy well down the order, they had been running as high as 2nd place prior to their stop.
Spa marks the end of the historic racing calendar for most, DK will be running a 355 Challenge at the Ferrari Passione Silverstone event on September 24th and preparations are underway for those cars heading to Portimao in late October.
