Goodwood Revival 2016

It seems in September the Classic Car calendar in Europe hits top gear, with international Concours events Salon Prive and Windsor Castle followed immediately by Goodwood Revival and then the famous Spa 6 Hours. DK have had a significant presence at each of the events and are proud to have returned home with coveted silverware from each event.

Roy Salvadori famously once said "Give me Goodwood on a summer's day and you can forget the rest of the world." The Friday and Sunday of this years Goodwood Revival would have pleased Mr Salvadori greatly, however Saturday saw some of the worst conditions in Revival history. Regardless of this, the event was of course still a huge success.

Notable for 2016 was a new race named theKinrara trophy a TT for the earlier pre-63 GT cars (Sunday's TT catering for the Pre-66 variants. Goodwood found no trouble in putting together a very impressive grid of E-Types, Aston Martin DB4 GTs and Ferrari 250 SWBs and GTOs. Both the qualifying and race took place on Friday, ultimately watching the stunning pre-1963 GT racers battle into the dusk. DK Engineering had entered and prepared the maroon E-Type to be driven by Andrew Smith and James Cottingham, James started the car from 6th on the grid and immediately wasted no time in battling his way to the front of the pack, leading the race at the pit stops the car was handed over to Andrew Smith who regained the lead and drove a fantastic race in the fading light, the very fast Ferrari 250 SWB however was in a class of its own and Andrew was completely helpless in denying Tom Kristensen the overall victory in the much more powerful car. A well-deserved second place trophy to add to the growing list of podium finishes for the maroon and silver E Type. With the race proving such a spectacle it is certain to become a staple feature of Revivals to come.

DK cars were in action in four other races, another podium finish for James Cottingham in the Ecurie Ecosse Tojeiro Jaguar, and pole position in the Freddie March trophy on the yellow and black Ferrari 500 TRC which sadly did not suit the monsoon conditions of Saturday's race. In the Lavant Cup David Cottingham brought home the blue AC Ace in a very respectable position amongst the Frazer Nashs and BMW 328s. With all DK Engineering associated cars behaving faultlessly and with two very strong Podium Finishes, 2016 can be said to have been a good year for DK and we look forward to 2017.
