Pebble Beach and Monterey 2015

Monterey Week has become the central point in the Classic Car year. The week centres round a number of events including the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance (widely regarded as the world's most important Concours event), the Quail Lodge gathering, the Monterey Historics race event at Laguna Seca and in the case of this year, 10 Collector Car auctions.

This year DK Engineering had prepared the ex Scuderia Filipinetti Ferrari 250 LM for the Pebble Beach Concours and the tour on Wednesday. The car had recently been displayed at Le Mans and so a quick turnaround was needed to get the car on its flight for California. The LM completed the Tour and was driven by the owner and DK's James Cottingham. Detailed again and presented on the Concours lawn for Sunday's event, the car scored extremely well by the judges, as one would have expected. Sharing the lawn with the 250 LM were a couple of DK's old friends including the unique Ferrari 857S, which DK restored and raced in 2011. This stunning car is now part of a wonderful American collection and is untouched since DK sold the car. It looked splendid on the lawn and was certainly a crowd favourite. Next to the 857 was David Cottingham's 340 MM; a car he owned and restored and later sold to his dear friend Sherman Wolf in order to fund the purchase of DK's Watford premises in 1984. Many years on, the superb nature of the car on the lawn in 2015 is a testament to the quality of a DK restoration. Also on display was the 250 GT SWB DK sold in June at the Quail gathering.

At the sales, the market showed that exceptional cars will always fetch the strongest prices; the last Enzo produced which was gifted by Ferrari to Pope John Paul II smashed the record price for an Enzo and Goodings 250 SWB Berlinetta and Califonia Spyder both sold very well. The highest price paid over the weekend, however, was for the ex-Ron Fry 250 LM. This was undoubtedly the finest car on sale in Monterey and DK are thrilled to have secured this car on behalf of a private client. The car, which DK has had the experience of before, is already en-route to Chorleywood for a Concours level restoration. Perhaps the car will return to Monterey in the future to collect some Concours awards!
