With the team back in the UK, and James already on his way back to the USA for the next round of WEC, we have had time to collect our thoughts on another fantastic trip to California for Monterey Car Week.
It was great to meet so many people; clients, friend and fans alike and we were once more a very fortunate position to have both the One-Off Zonda Nero and our Ferrari F50 with us. Both went down a treat during the week.
It was interesting to see how the audience and attendance has changed over time, and notably post-pandemic in terms of activity during the week. It wouldn’t be CarWeek without a manic dash or two, but it feels more so than ever that it is now a week of more-events-than-days and as result, the justification for DK to have a larger presence on the ground.
We were delighted to assist one of the earliest fans of Team DK, Mr Earl Waggoner and his unrestored Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso of 59-year ownership on the Pebble Beach lawns. There were some great cars on the lawns and many demonstrating great craftsmanship, notably in the Ferrari 250 GTO wearing its original body once more and Lamborghini Miura SV present with its very special dry-sumped engine.
The market proved to remain strong and buoyant with great results seen for great cars. Without a doubt there are fewer big buyers ‘in the room’ these days, but with some much of Car Week immortalised digitally and online, buyers are quick to make themselves known when opportunities present.
We’re already excited about next year, and look forward to returning to the US concours scene as soon as possible!
