DK to sign off its 2022 racing calendar in style

James Cottingham and DK Engineering will take to the track for one final time in anger this season, with confirmation of entry into this weekend’s Gulf 12 Hours. Continuing his GT3 competition for 2022 with the Bahraini-British 2 Seas Motorsport, James will be reunited with his British GT teammate Lewis Williamson and young talent, Aaron Walker, for the 12-hour endurance battle at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.

2 Seas Motorsport returns to the Gulf 12 Hours as reigning champions, having taken outright victory for the previous two years in the Pro category. The first victory was taken at the relocated event during 2021 on home turf, at the Bahrain International Circuit. They then returned to the region earlier this year, when the race returned to its regular venue in Abu Dhabi, scoring another impressive result. Now, with the race back to its familiar end-of-the-year slot – and now the final round of the highly competitive Intercontinental GT Challenge calendar – the team returns with two Pro-Am entries.

James and his teammates will share the garage with two of reigning champions, Sh. Isa Al Khalifa and Martin Kodri?, who are joined by British GT winner Hunter Abbott.

Ahead of the race weekend, James explained: “Motorsport has always been an important part of what we know and love at DK Engineering, and the 2022 season has been a really fantastic experience. A new challenge for me, racing in a new car, a new series and new style of racing. It has been a fantastic opportunity to meet and host clients, and to raise awareness of what DK is, and how we operate. Lewis and I had some great battles throughout the year, and we were one of the front-running partnerships for much of the season, and Aaron proved himself a real fighter at the final round at Donington Park.”

“I am really looking forward to signing off what has been a great year, at a new track for me, under the lights at Yas Marina. We also have several clients taking part in the event, highlighting again how big a part motorsport plays within our business, and it will be a great opportunity to catch up with them in a racing environment.”

James made the move over to GT3 competition earlier this year with a full-season entry into the Intelligent Money British GT Championship, competing with 2 Seas Motorsport in the DK Engineering-backed Mercedes-AMG GT3. His season, alongside Scottish pro racer Lewis Williamson, saw two podium finishes, a pole position and two further front row starts. The race results were enough to keep them in the title fight until the final round, eventually finishing a commendable 4th in the championship. The driver line-up is completed by exciting young talent, Aaron Walker, who made his sportscar debut earlier this year. At just 16-years-old, the accomplished go-karter raced as teammate to James at the British GT finale earlier this year.
