For the 30th anniversary of The Classic at Silverstone, DK Engineering was out in force both on and off the track.
With five cars on track, Friday was a busy day with qualifying for all five races. First up was James Cottingham and Harvey Stanley in the Pre ’63 GT RAC Historic Tourist Trophy, who qualified third fastest in the Huffaker E-Type. Less than an hour later in Qualifying for the RAC Woodcote & Stirling Moss Trophies would see two DK entries on track: James and Harvey in the Tojeiro-Jaguar and David Cottingham and Adrian King in David’s Ferrari 500 TRC. The Tojeiro qualified sixth with David and Adrian third in class. After lunch, action moved to the International Paddock and James shared the Dallara with Max Girardo, qualifying eight in an incredibly diverse field. The last qualifying session of the day for the DK team was at 17:30 for the International Trophy for Classic GT Cars (Pre ’66), where James and Harvey qualified fifth in the Carreras Colombia Cobra.
On Saturday, James and Harvey raced to a second place finish overall in the E-Type to start off the day, dicing with the iconic 250 SWB Breadvan throughout the race. With two races for the Masters Endurance Legends grid, James took the Dallara to a fourth in class finish. Saturday’s dusk race provided lots of excitement with a very wet track and brilliant lighting. In a hard fought race which was both cut short and saw almost half of it run under the safety car, James and Harvey placed fifth overall in the Tojeiro-Jaguar. Meanwhile, David and Adrian finished fourth in class in the 500 TRC.
With Max Girardo taking charge of the Dallara for Sunday, team DK had just one race for the final day of the Classic: the Pre ’66 race in the Cobra. The duo of Harvey and James placed fifth in a hard fought race, just five seconds away from the third place Cobra Dayotna Coupe of Roy Alderslade and Andrew Jordan.
Sales cars on display included a trio of Ferraris at the Motor Racing Legends Hospitality marquee, including a 750 Monza, 250 SWB Berlinetta, and 250 GT Zagato, in addition to a race-ready Austin-Healey 100 S. A Ferrari F50 in Giallo Modena, one of 31 cars finished in that colour, took pride of place at the Ferrari Owners’ Club area, alongside the renowned Stefano Bucci F40 ‘Sponsor’ on Saturday.
