Over the August Bank Holiday Weekend, DK held an event at their private showrooms premises located close by to our Main office.
The event started with an informal rally through the Chilterns ending at the designated location. All manner of cars took part, from a Bugatti Type 35B through to a brand new Ford GT. Although not a competitive rally it was one that required great skill over a complex route and the eventual winner (and coupe who got lost the least!) was Joe & Emma Twyman in their DK Engineering supplied Ferrari 355 GTB.
A special award was given to Dk’s favourite and most quirky entry. By pure coincidence, this was given to Neil & Helen Twyman (parents of Joe) with their sole surviving Mulliner bodied Military Austin Seven.
As part of the event, DK opened their often missed three additional private showrooms containing a large range of stock from our current listings. In addition, some of the rarer and lesser-seen vehicles that we store and maintain for clients, were on show including a McLaren F1, the Walt Disney 250 TdF and the ex-Ron Fry 250LM to name but a few. It was an excellent way to gather together regular clients and friends of DK for an intimate day with like-minded people where there were no restrictions, unlike many of the bigger shows today, at the same time a huge and varied selection of high-quality motorcars of all ages from the last century. It also gave us the opportunity to invite some of our longest-standing clients including the Clarke family with their RHD Ferrari 250 GT Lusso, the very same car that was supplied to them in the 1970s by DK.
As part of the afternoon entertainment one of our revered clients and friends brought along his ex-Colin McRae Subaru 22B Impreza demonstrating it at speed, which gave the guests a real thrill. To complete the afternoon, an informal Concours was held and despite fierce competition, it yielded three award winners. The Ladies’ choice went the beautiful 212 Barchetta of Mr & Mrs Whitworth. The Gentleman’s choice went to the aforementioned Subaru Impreza 22b (ex Colin McRae) and Best of Show went to the 288 GTO of Mr & Mrs Cook.
