McLaren and Mercedes are two of the most successful names in Motorsport, the collaboration between the two teams gathered pace in 1995 as Mercedes became McLaren's F1 Engine supplier. The collaboration that followed in Formula One, would bear many great successes over almost two decades. Mercedes-Benz went on to acquire 40 percent of the McLaren Group, and at this time, the two companies produced their first road car together.
Competition was fierce in 2003 with Ferrari launching the Enzo and Porsche the mid Engineered Carrera GT. However the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, with its Awe-Inspiring supercharged 5.5 litre Engine, put the emphasis back in the driving seat. Mclaren's input is obvious in the car's handling characteristics and most notably the braking, when launched the SLR's brakes were by far the most advanced available on any road car, internally ventilated carbon-fibre ceramic discs with 6-piston aluminium fixed-callipers.
Available in just two colours at launch, this example was optioned Crystal Laurite Silver. Both of the available colours were solvent based and featured much greater levels of metallic flake than standard colours by comparison.
This example received a full black leather interior, cosseting the driver in a luxurious environment and fitted with a wealth of amenities not often seen on the highest tier supercars of the time. This SLR came equipped with a Nokia telephone handset in the armrest, Bose sound system and boot mounted CD changer. The carbon fibre bucket seats take their pattern inspiration from the McLaren's heritage and the F1 GT, the large bolsters separated by the 'Daytona-style' inserts.
Desirably this example further received the upgraded 19" 'Turbine' wheels, the production version of the five-spoke twists as fitted on the Vision SLR concept in 1999. First registered in the UK in 2021, this example received a major service at Mercedes-Benz Brooklands in 2022 to the tune of £17,500. Since then this example has been serviced by marque specialist Avantgarde, receiving its most recent annual service in October 2024 along with a fresh MOT. This SLR has covered just 14,900 miles and is accompanied by its original book pack and history folio and is available to view at our showrooms outside London immediately.
