When the famed 1973 Carrera 2.7 RS finished production in 1974, Porsche offered a mechanically fuel injected Carrera or the G-Series Carrera 2.7 MFI. the MFI was similar in terms of specification to the 2.7RS. Sharing the same trim and a RS Spec 210bhp 911/83 engine which enabled the car to do 0-60 mph in just over 5 seconds. The car was geared to achieve 150mph via a 5-speed manual transmission.

Aesthetically, the main difference between the RS Touring and the MFI was the MFI was fitted with the G-Series impact bumper body and interior as opposed to the longer hood style. The MFI also shares the same weight as it’s legendary predecessor, weighing in at just 1075kg. Cars produced before 1975 came with a whale tail or ducktail or tail delete whilst later cars produced from 1975 onwards came with a whale tail or tail delete.

In total, 1,633 units were produced worldwide. This includes the 113 German-only Sondermodell coupes that were produced during the tail end of the MFIs production in 1976 and reserved for Porsche’s most favoured clients. In addition to the standard production figures, Porsche built 631 Targa variants between 74’ and 76’ of which 20 were especially commissioned for the Belgian Gendarmerie. At the time, they were the fastest police cars in the world and the last mechanically fuel injected car Porsche produced.

In comparison to the computerised injection systems of the time, the Bosch Mechanical Fuel injection setup provided a prompt throttle response and a much more visceral driving experience.

This example is finished in a striking Viper Green Metallic over a black leatherette interior accompanied with Shetland Inlays. Rare for an original Italian car due to tax reasons in the 70s, this MFI comes in a high specification with the electric sunroof, white fog lights and the adjustable mirror options.

Originally supplied to Italy to a Renzo Beltramelli, the car is matching numbers and in it’s original paint colour. The car continued to live in the Italian region of Piedmont where it would have three owners before finding a new life in the UK. The car was imported into the UK in 2014 from Italy and formed part of a private collection of over 40 Porsches. This car underwent a full nut and bolt restoration while part of that collection and it was set to be the owner's weekend car. Unfortunately the collector passed away before he could enjoy his recently restored MFI.

In 2019, under the care of its new owner, the car underwent an extensive overhaul of the engine and gearbox, with over £4,000 invested in the work. Throughout this MFI's life, no expense has been spared in its maintenance.

Perhaps one of the draws to this particular model of 911 apart from its vibrant paintwork is the MFI’s competitive price compared to its highly collectable predecessor, the 2.7RS. Sharing the same engine and many of the inner workings, the MFI offers an appealing package for the discerning Porsche enthusiast, seeking a responsive, driver-focused classic Porsche.

Following a recent mechanical overhaul at the Porsche specialist BS Motorsport amounting to over £6,000, the car runs and presents extremely well and is available to view at our showrooms outside London immediately.
