The much sought-after Ferrari 246 Dino GT was named after Enzo Ferrari's son Alfredino, who died in 1956, aged just 24. Enzo Ferrari credits his son with the inspiration for a series of successful small and medium capacity V6 racing engines built by Ferrari from 1956, and in turn, the name was given to a new line of mid-engined production Ferrari V6 coupés, which first went on sale in 1969. The Dino 246GT has proved to be one of the most satisfying and successful automobiles built by Ferrari and paved the way for the emerging generation of mid-engined Ferraris. It is widely regarded as one of the best-handling and most gratifying automobiles of the early 70s, it is one of the most attractive, delicately balanced designs ever produced by the masters at Pininfarina. As a result, Dinos have enjoyed a well-deserved recent surge in popularity.

This wonderful example was built in late 1973 and supplied new through Maranello Concessionaires to Andrews of Windsor in January 1974. Ordered new in Rosso Chiaro with Cromodora alloys, Nero 161 interior with carpets in Rosso. This example has remained in the UK from new. One of 488 UK supplied RHD examples, this car has been used sparingly and has enjoyed throughout its life.

Wearing a private registration for several years, the first ten years of this example’s history are relatively light, but the car passed through 3 owners and just 24,000 miles. The car was cared for by Deryck K Morely of Derbyshire and several invoices are in the file documenting its early service work. In 1980, a private registration mark was applied and the file holds thorough MOT records throughout the 1980s. Having covered just 24,539 in 1980, the MOT history supports the nominal annual mileage increases.

In 1990, the car was purchased by Mr Rodgers of Huddersfield. A plant hire specialist, Mr Rodgers was also a keen and active member of the Ferrari Owners Club. Shortly after purchase he commissioned an engine overhaul and tending to other details; subsequently scoring a commendable 366/400 in the Ferrari Owners Club Concours. Mr Rodgers retained the car until 2004, with servicing moving to Italia Autosport of Holmfirth in the later years. During this period the car was also stored with Italia Autosport and as such the car was used sparingly.

Ahead of purchase by the current owner, this example was refurbished, with a number of works carried out to the tune of £10,000 by Nick Cartwright. Purchased by the current owner in 2006 from Cartwright, this example returned several times for ongoing service work and has since covered just 2,000 miles since. Known to DK Engineering since 2008 when we were tasked with preparing the car for Ferrari's red book Classiche certification, being successfully granted certification on 10th September 2008, confirming the matching engine and gearbox are those originally fitted to the car.

Placed into storage in 2018, the car saw minimal use until earlier this year. Arriving with us in March 2023, DK Engineering have since carried out a thorough inspection and mechanical overhaul to the tune of £9,500. This superbly presented, an eminently usable Dino, is mechanically on the button. Ferrari Classiche Certified, this Dino 246 GT is available to view at our showrooms outside London immediately. It is accompanied by its history folio, leather document wallet, including matching warranty card, spare parts catalogue and reissued Owners Handbook.
