McLaren and Mercedes are two of the most successful names in Motorsport, the collaboration between the two teams gathered pace in 1995 as Mercedes became McLaren's F1 Engine supplier. The collaboration that followed in Formula One, would bear many great successes over almost two decades. Mercedes-Benz went on to acquire 40 percent of the McLaren Group, and at this time, the two companies produced their first road car together. Competition was fierce in 2003 with Ferrari launching the Enzo and Porsche the mid Engineered Carrera GT. However the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, with its Awe-Inspiring supercharged 5.5 litre Engine, put the emphasis back in the driving seat. Mclaren's input is obvious in the car's handling characteristics and most notably the braking, when launched the SLR's brakes were by far the most advanced available on any road car, internally ventilated carbon-fibre ceramic discs with 6-piston aluminium fixed-callipers.
Please note, this vehicle is no longer for sale.
For the first year of production there were just two colour options for the SLR; Crystal Galaxite Black and Crystal Laurite Silver. This example made full use of its later supplying date, as the second year opened up the colour palette and as such, is desirably optioned in Crystal Palladium Grey Metallic, thought to be one of three examples in the UK delivered as such.
The interior sees single-tone black leather, with the seat inserts and steering wheel having been elegantly retrimmed in black Alcantara as per the later 722 special edition. The Alcantara extends to the gearstick surround and door pulls. The headrests subtly feature the laser-etched McLaren logo. A light headlining provides a welcoming lift to the interior.
Other than colour, options on the SLR were limited. This example elegantly sports silver brake callipers, hidden behind the optional 19’’ Turbine-style wheels that were first seen on the Vision SLR concept in 1999.
This example was supplied new to its first keeper in September 2007 who would retain the car for three years and cover 12,000 miles. The second owner purchased the car from Mercedes Benz of Portsmouth in 2013 and was kept and maintained using his own vehicle storage and race preparation business.
The car was purchased by the current owner in 2017 and his since found a home within a large collection. The car has since received an upgraded Quicksilver exhaust, improving the sound in line with expectations! The car visited Avantgarde Mercedes Benz specialist in 2018 for a service, and, as of July 2023, the car has just received a major service with Avantgarde once more.
Today this example presents with 20,600 miles from new and is available to view at our showrooms outside London immediately.
