Mitsubishi Evolution 6 'Tommi Makinen' Edition (2001)

The Mitsubishi Evolution (Evo) series was launched in the 1992, surviving 10 iterations before its demise in 2016. Over the years, it retained the same basic form of a small saloon body shape and a 2litre, 4-cylinder engine.

Throughout the late 90s, the Evo was consistently competitive in the World Rally Championship against the likes of the two other factory backed teams, Ford and Subaru. Popularity for the cars spanned all mediums; throughout their competitive years and beyond, the Mitsubishi Evolutions saw regular placements in rally and racing games and equally in Fast & Furious film series, as such making this such a recognisable and collectable vehicle.

Built to celebrate Tommi Makinen’s fourth consecutive driver’s championship in 1999, the Evo 6 bearing his name introduced a whole host of upgrades over the standard car. These included the addition of a front strut brace, lower ride height, a more responsive turbo, 17-inch Enkei wheels and seats exclusive to the car.

A gentleman’s agreement in place between Japanese car manufacturers at the time meant keeping all production cars below 300bhp. As a result, the TME was quoted at 276bhp and 275lb/ft of torque but was more than capable of sub 5 second sprint to 60mph.

Fewer than 10,000 Evo 6’s were built during their two year production dates. From this, some 2,500 were Tommi Makinen Editions but only 250 were originally imported to the UK with the vast majority remaining in Japan.

Our car is an original UK car, delivered in Passion Red making it one of just 50 cars. Unique to the UK allocation, this car is accompanied by its original UK service books along with an individually numbered plaque in the cabin. Originally supplied by Whitehouse Mitsubishi of Kent to Mr John Hudson in January 2001, it was additionally specified with the very rare, important and hugely desirable Special Colour Pack (SCP) making it one of just 212 cars to leave the factory in this form. The Special Colour Pack adds the full motorsport livery with black door handles to accommodate the full length stripes.

This immaculate Evo 6 Tommi Makinen is currently available with just 46,850 miles and is accompanied by an extensive history file, including the original and complete book pack with no less than 15 service stamps from new. Its condition is clear to see that it has been maintained with no expense spared during its carefree life. It is available to view at our showrooms just outside London immediately.
