This Porsche 911 2.7 Carrera RS Touring is no longer available. Please contact us for any further information you may require.
The ultimate 911, there is no more iconic silhouette than that of the early 911 and of all the variations and differences in these cars the shape of the 2.7 RS with its Aerodynamic ducktail is the most instantly recognisable. It captured the imagination like the Jaguar E type had a decade before, and the initial run of 500 sold out almost immediately. Porsche had to reinstate production to build more - another 1,090, in fact - in order to meet demand. RS stands for Rennsport in German, meaning "racing sport". The Carrera name was reintroduced from the 356 Carrera which had itself been named after Porsche's victories in the Carrera Panamericana races in Mexico in the 1950s. These sensational cars also achieved great success on the race track, RS both in touring and in lightweight spec were raced in almost every sports car race, the lightly modified RSR examples scored victories in the Targa Florio, the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring all in their first year. Weighing in at only 975kg, 2.7 RS's have an impressive top speed of 150mph and performance figures of 0-65mph in just 5.8 seconds.
This spectacular example is one of only 16 cars supplied new in stunning Glasurblau 666611, the car was equipped with options 419, 433, 441 and 650, electric sunroof, leather steering wheel, amplifier and 4 speakers and the weight saving rear luggage option, (in place of rear seats). The car spent most of its early life in Spain. Juan Carlos I who became the king of Spain in 1975, is a life-long fan of Porsche in the 1970s he was spotted driving a blue 2.7 RS, since it is believed that there was only one blue 2.7 RS in Spain, this car has often been sighted as "the King of Spain's 2.7 RS"; although this cannot be proven.
The car remained in Spain, with Jose Aguilar of Madrid until purchased by the previous German owner, Dr Scholz, in 2002. At some stage the car had been repainted red and had a replacement "AT" crank case fitted. Once back in Germany a complete restoration was set about by Porsche specialists P.S Automobile. This complete restoration saw the car completely stripped, very quickly the original Glasurblau paint was clearly visible, inside the doors, engine compartment and across the floor thus as part of this work the car was returned to its original, special order, colour. This extensive restoration was completed in 2004, and the final finish of the car included fitment of a roll bar, additional driving lights, stainless steel exhaust, lightweight interior fittings, and lightweight rear bumpers in preparation for a number of historic motorsport tours and rallies, for this same reason a full FIA Historic Passport was granted. Over the following years the car was driven on a number of prestigious events including the Monte Carlo Historic, Eifel Classic, Rallye Konigstein and Hessenrallye.
Following several years of use on rallies and tours the decision was made to restore the car to its original specifications and to concours condition resultantly a total nut and bolt restoration was started (again!). The engine and gearbox were sent to Porsche AG in Stuttgart for overhaul and rebuild. The rest of the car was stripped back to the bare metal shell by Porsche specialists in Frankfurt, this painstaking, meticulous total restoration was completed in the autumn of 2013. Many bills and photographs can be found in the detailed history file.
