Launched during October 1981's Paris Salon, Ferrari's 512i BB most notably marked the arrival of fuel injection on Ferrari's Flat-12. Replacing the familiar Weber carbs (seen on almost every previous Ferrari model) fuel injection not only improved an engine's flexibility but made it much easier to maintain, to live with, to start from cold as well as prolonging the lifetime of the engine. The BBi remained in production for almost three years. A few minor detail changes were made to the bodywork with clear reflectors inserted into the front bumper and supplementary driving lights now exposed in the grille. There were also new wing mirrors. 1007 fuel injected Boxers were completed of which just 43 were UK Right-Hand drive supplied making this the rarest variation of the RHD Boxers. This took entire BB production to just over 2300.
This UK Right Hand Drive BBi is one of those 43 BBi's produced and was delivered new to its first private UK based owner in August 1982 via Modena Ferrari. During the entirety of its life it is evident that each owner has meticulously cared for the vehicle with servicing invoices within the file dating back to 1983.
DK Engineering first experienced this fine BBi in 2000 when it was purchased by a close friend of the companies. Over their 10 year ownership period it was exercised sparingly but was still maintained with no expense spared by ourselves despite the minor mileage covered. DK subsequently sold the car in 2010 on behalf of that same client and during its most recent tenure and in 2013 (over a period of 18 months) a thorough restoration was undertaken. The bodywork was taken back to bare metal and refinished in the same stunning Blu Chiaro you see it presented in today with appropriate Nero bottom sections. The interior leather was carefully treated and today remains in superb condition. The engine was removed, received a major service and was thoroughly detailed. At this time the engine bay was also stripped back and refinsiehd in the correct black as well as the front section of the chassis. The radiator was removed and restored and all brakes and suspension fully stripped and detailed also.
Today the car presents as you would expect following such a large amount of work. It is accompanied by its original book pack, tool case, spare wheel and a most complete history file.
