The ultimate 911. There is no more iconic silhouette than that of the early 911 and of all the variations and differences in these cars, the shape of the 2.7 RS with its Aerodynamic ducktail is the most instantly recognisable. It captured the imagination like the Jaguar E type had a decade before, and the initial run of 500 sold out almost immediately. Porsche had to reinstate production to build more - another 1,090, in fact - in order to meet demand.
RS stands for Rennsport in German, meaning "racing sport". The Carrera name was reintroduced from the 356 Carrera which had itself been named after Porsche's victories in the Carrera Panamericana races in Mexico in the 1950s. These sensational cars also achieved great success on the race track, RS both in touring and in lightweight spec were raced in almost every sports car race, the lightly modified RSR examples scored victories in the Targa Florio, the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring all in their first year. Weighing in at only 975kg, 2.7 RS's have an impressive top speed of 150mph and performance figures of 0-65mph in just 5.8 seconds.
This superb UK supplied RHD RS Touring was completed in 1973, finished in its original and most stunning combination of Grand Prix White with Blue RS Livery over a Black Leatherette interior. The car was also specified from new to include the following options of Blue colour coordinated wheels, left and right Sports Seats, driver's side door mirror, electric windows, electric sliding roof and a heated rear window.
The car was first registered on the 8th June 1973 and sold to its first private owner via dealer Ian Anthony (Sales) Ltd. During the next 10 years until 1983, it changed hands a mere two times and has since had just two more owners over the last 33 years, totalling just five private owners from new. In 1989 the car was purchased by its most recent proprietor and the decision was made shortly after to subject the car to a comprehensive restoration over a period of one year. The car has since remained in superb condition, both mechanically and cosmetically.
In 2016, under DK Engineering's supervision, the car has received a thorough re-commission carried out by renowned Porsche specialist Jaz, consisting of the following work: Full strip and repaint carried out on the outside and underside of the vehicle, an engine out major service, fuel system rebuilt with genuine new fuel tank, suspension, and braking system rebuilt, interior refreshed as necessary as well as fitting a new headliner, dash tops and knee bars, and the wheels have been overhauled to their factory anodised finish with the original Blue colour coded centres.
Today this exceptional matching numbers RS Touring presents equally to the day it departed the Porsche factory and as a result of its recent work wants for nothing. A truly comprehensive history file accompanies the car, confirming the fastidious nature in which it has been cared for throughout its life. Remarkably the history file is also accompanied by the original owner's manual along with the incredibly rare, original Carrera RS supplement, spare key and Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche that confirms that both the engine and gearbox numbers match. The meticulously documented history and exceptional overall condition, make this 2.7 RS Touring a must for any serious collector or enthusiast. The car is currently available for viewing at our showroom just outside London ready to be used and enjoyed immediately.
