The Bentley "Blower" originated when "Bentley Boy" Tim Birkin set out to convince Bentley's then chairman Woolf Barnato that supercharging, in combination with Bentleys distinguished reliability would allow them to produce winning results on the racing circuit, specifically in this case, Le Mans. Contradictory to Barnato's earlier objections to supercharging, he agreed to produce 55 examples of the "Blower" to homologate the new model for competition. Out of the 55 Blowers built, five were to be destined directly into Birkin family ownership.
Then, as now, the Bentley Blower represented one of the most preeminent British cars ever built, utilising their high power supercharged engines and in "Boat Tail" form, defining the ultimate shape of a of a pre-war sports roadster.
Crafted with an uncompromising attention to detail and authenticity, this outstanding Petersen 4.5 Litre Blower was completed by English marque specialist Bob Petersen Engineering, built to "Boat Tail" specification, a two seater Sports Coupe Cabriolet.
Based upon an original 1930's Bentley chassis and Identity, the frame has been strengthened and stiffened by Petersen, strictly adhering to original Bentley specifications. In addition to using a period chassis, Petersen Engineering adopt a fully rebuilt 4.5 Litre Bentley R-Type, 6 Cylinder engine fitted with a Petersen Supercharger and heavy duty clutch.
Presented in Dark British Racing Green this blower adopts a full fold-down windscree with secondary aero screens, full race side exhaust in stainless steel, outside gear change and handbrake, twin tank fuel filler caps, single right hand front spot lamp with an additional swivel lamp, and polished rear wing stone guards.
Today the car has covered just 785 Miles since its re-commission, and as a result presents in superb condition. This breath taking Boat Tail is ready to be enjoyed by its new owner immediately. With a near two year waiting list for the famous Petersen built cars, this complete and immediately available Boat Tail represents an excellent proposition.
