As reported in Motorsport and Octane Magazines the MGB has always been a useful track tool. The monocoque as opposed to separate chassis body design was revolutionary in 1962 and is still only just being adopted by other manufacturers. Most importantly an MGB is one of the best and easiest ways into Historic motorsport being relatively low value, easy and cost effective to run but consistently competitive in their class. Many famous faces have used an MGB as their route into motorsport such as in recent times touring car driver Rob Huff, and British GT and 2016 Le Mans driver Oliver Bryant. A perfect car to learn race craft, car control and the art of extracting the maximum potential from what is a relatively under powered vehicle.
Doug Smith's MG Motorsport has established itself as the company to build and run MGB race cars. Over the years the MG Motorsport run car driven by Tom Smith has cleaned up almost every prize in which a "B" is eligible.
MG Motorsport build only a few FIA Spec MGBs each year and this example is as close to a brand new MG Motorsport car as you can find. This FIA MGB was completed by MG Motorsport to their highest specification for the 2013 race season. For various reasons the car has only completed two race meetings and subsequently is presented as "Box Fresh".
The car has valid FIA papers which enable this MGB eligible for prestigious series such as the Spa 6 Hours, Masters Gentleman Drivers and the GT and Sports Car Cup as well as the ever popular "Equipe GTS" or CSCC Classic K series. The car is presented in traditional Flame Red (as per the works cars) with matching red lightweight hardtop. The impressive specification includes an FIA approved Tillett racing seat, and a top Spec MG Motorsport legal 1840cc engine, with a Peter Burgess modified head, steel forged conrods, pistons and crankshaft, lightened flywheel with competition organic clutch and a baffled sump. The Engine dyno sheet shows 186bhp @ 6,300 RPM.
This fantastic Historic car is eligible, evidently competitive and ready to raced and enjoyed immediately. Viewings are available at our showroom, which is based just outside London.
