The 328 GTS model, together with the fixed roof 328 GTB, were the final developments of the normally aspirated transverse V8 engine 2-seat series. The 328 figures in the model title referred to the total cubic capacity of the engine, 3.2 litres, and 8 for the number of cylinders. The new model was introduced at the 1985 Frankfurt Salon alongside the Mondial 3.2 series.
Essentially the new model was a revised and updated version of the 308, which had survived for eight years without any radical change to the overall shape, albeit with various changes to the 3-litre engine. The 328 model presented a softening of the wedge profile of its predecessor, with a redesigned nose that had a more rounded shape, which was complemented by similar treatment to the tail valance panel. The revised nose and tail sections featured body colour bumpers integral with the valance panels. The exhaust air louvres behind the retractable headlight pods on the 308 series disappeared, coupled with an increase in the size of the front lid radiator exhaust air louvre, which had been introduced on the 308 Quattrovalvole models, whilst a new style and position of exterior door catch was also provided. The interior trim also had a thorough overhaul, with new designs for the seat panel upholstery and stitching, revised door panels and pulls, together with more modern switchgear, which complemented the external updating details.
This LHD 1989 328 GTB is one of the last cars built, delivered new to Sweden and collected by Ost Olle in June 1989. Kept as part of his large Ferrari collection until in 1996 when it had just 2,500 kms on the clock. At that time DK were asked to find the very best GTB for a client and this was the car that was tracked down and subsequently purchased by DK Engineering on behalf of the client; the car was driven from Sweden to DK where the car was UK registered. Today the car is still owned by that same owner (the second owner) and has now covered a further 18,000 kms in total. Since 1996 the car has been regularly maintained by DK at no expense spared including a major cambelt service in 2013, and a further annual service will be completed as part of the sale.
The car is presented in superb condition with its factory option air conditioning, ABS and leather dashboard. It is accompanied by an extensive history file which includes service bills and every MOT, original book pack, jack and toolkit. This low mileage two-owner 328 is a very special motorcar indeed with 328 GTS outnumbering the desirable GTB examples by 1 to 5, a very useable, rare and highly collectible motorcar.
