Introduced for the 1967 model year, the 911S featured a comprehensive range of performance enhancements, including revised carburetion and camshafts to yield no less than 160hp from its 1991cc's, a remarkable specific output for the era and 30hp up on the original car. Immediately the 911S became THE model to have with their 2,211mm wheelbase they have retrospectively been referred to as "SWB's".
The S package also encompassed the chassis, with the first fitment of the now legendary Fuchs forged alloy wheels, ventilated brake discs, Koni shock absorbers, and enlarged anti-roll bar. The interior and exterior also received special treatment, in the form of leather rimmed steering wheel, basketweave dashboard trim, thicker deco strips, and special badging. 1968 models were substantially the same, but lost the delicate door handles and iconic green font gauges with chrome bezels that were unique to the 1967 and earlier 911s.
This example is an extremely early car being completed in October 1966 and finished in Irish Green with Black Leatherette interior. It featured the optional Heater, Sunroof, Headrests and a Becker radio with speakers and antenna. It was originally supplied to Germany but later in 1977 was bought and shipped to his home by an American.
In 2009 the car was purchased by a collector and a total restoration was carried out to the highest standard. Incredibly the car retains its original "matching numbers" shell, engine and gearbox. When it was restored if any parts were not restorable they were replaced with NOS parts and very few reproduction items were used. Naturally the car was finished in its breath-taking and rare original colour combination. A detailed file with photographic evidence of the restoration accompanies the car along with its original instruction manuals, original Becker radio guarantee card and pouch.
Since completion the car has been shown at various concours events and has several Concours "Best of Show" and "Best in Class" awards including two during the world famous Monterey week.
In 2013 the car was imported to the UK and road registered. At this time it was checked over by marque specialist, Andy Prill, who confirmed that this must be one of the finest and most correct 911Ss in existence.
Classic Porsche magazine had heard of the existence of this unique and 911S and the car soon featured on the front cover of the magazine with a 6-page in depth article to follow on what they describe as "The Best early 911 we have ever seen, and one which is as near to being perfect as anyone is likely to get. That it is a 2.0 litre 911 S in that most becoming of colours, Irish Green, makes it all the more appealing." The full magazine article can be seen in our Press section.
This car represents an opportunity to own a sensational matching numbers early 911 in a league of its own. Classic Porsche Magazine concluded that this car is "Quite possibly the nicest, most accurately detailed early 911S, this Irish Green coupe has set standards in restoration that will be hard to match"
