McLaren F1

The McLaren F1 in recent years has become one of the most desirable cars to own in automotive history. The list of current and past F1 owners reads like the who's who of the automotive world. It is no surprise that the F1 is regarded by many as the next most desirable and significant motor car built since the Ferrari 250 GTO.

This example is one of 64 road cars built (not including LM's, GT's and prototypes), chassis #028, and was built for McLaren Formula One race driver Michael Andretti as part of his Formula One contract for the 1993 season with McLaren. Chassis 028 was built shortly after Michael's contract with McLaren had ended and it was one of the first few road cars finished in 1995. At that point in time there was no legal method for a US citizen to import the car to the USA so it remained in the UK. After some length of time Michael chose to sell the car to avoid further storage and insurance costs and the car subsequently sold to Japan where it remained for some years. More recently the car has enjoyed a further two owners in California until it was purchased by DK Engineering in 2014.

The car does bear evidence of Michael's connection with it - the backside of the driver's sun visor is signed in black ink by Michael. There is also a badge on the left side of the rear grille with embossed text that reads "Special order car by Andretti" with 'Andretti' written in script like his signature.

#028 remains today in its rare and most striking original colour combination of Grand Prix Red with Magnolia Leather. It is very unusual and most refreshing to find a car that remains in such original and unmolested condition as many cars have been repainted, retrimmed or even had High Downforce Kits added over the years.

Having covered just 10,000 miles from new, #028 represents a real opportunity to acquire one of the most important road F1s built that is one of just a handful of cars that has such a close link to Mclaren's race heritage that made this iconic road car possible.
