The much sought-after Ferrari 246 Dino GT was named after Enzo Ferrari's son Alfredino, who died in 1956, aged 24 years. Enzo Ferrari credits his son with the inspiration for a series of successful small and medium capacity V6 racing engines built by Ferrari from 1956, and in turn the name was given to a new line of mid-engined production Ferrari V6 coupés, which first went on sale in 1969. The Dino 246GT has proved to be one of the most satisfying and successful automobiles built by Ferrari and paved the way for the emerging generation of mid-engined Ferraris. It is widely regarded as one of the best-handling and most gratifying automobiles of the early 70s, it is one of the most attractive, delicately balanced designs ever produced by the masters at Pininfarina. As a result Dinos have enjoyed a well-deserved recent surge in popularity.

The GTS version of the 246 Dino arrived at the Geneva Salon in March 1972. It featured a removable targa roof panel that could be stowed behind the seats, the chassis being reinforced with extra bracing along the sides and front of the engine frame. Visibly the GTS had no rear three-quarter windows, these being replaced by a bank of three vents carved out from each sail panel. GTS's were all built on the series III (or "E") platform. Production of both the GT and GTS came to an end in 1974. 1274 GTS's were built in just over two years, 235 of which were in right-hand drive.

This 246 GTS was supplied new to Australia. This is a very late example and was delivered to Bruce Webster in Victoria in June 1974. The car's original specification was Rosso Chiaro with addition of the extremely rare and highly desirable wider Campagnolo wheels and flared arches. Later the car was upgraded with leather Dayonta seats and as such this example is the ultimate Dino specification; a "Chairs and Flares" GTS. Until now the car has spent its entire life in Australia and has benefitted from the warm and dry climate. Having covered an indicated from 44,000 miles from new the car is accompanied by extensive service records showing maintenance every year from 1981 despite minimal mileage. In the last twenty years the car has covered just 10,000 miles, and has been part of the same Australian collection since 1997.

Today the car is in the UK and is presented in superb condition, the paintwork and interior trim are both in outstanding condition, and mechanically the car needs nothing benefitting from a major service at DK prior to sale. This wonderful Dino is accompanied by extensive service records, the original tools, jack and five Campagnolo wheels.
