The Aston Martin DB5 burst onto the automotive scene in 1963, it was a development of the previous DB4 Series five vantage model which it replaced. Available as both sports saloon or convertible, the DB5 was slightly longer and also heavier than its predecessor. The weight gain was as a result of significant improvements including the fitting of an alternator, tinted glass and electric windows as standard. However, the weight disadvantage was more than made up for by the 4 litre motor fitted to DB5's which produced 282 bhp. Early cars were fitted with a four speed gearbox but had the option of three speed automatic, or a five speed ZF manual unit. The five speed gearbox soon became standard equipment on all DB5 cars. In 1964 the DB5 found fame as the transport of a certain James Bond in the film Goldfinger, making it probably the best known of all Aston Martin models. After the production of just 898 cars the DB5 was replaced in 1965 by the DB6.
It can certainly be said that the DB5 combines the best features and looks of all the DB models helping perhaps make it the most desirable and sought after Aston of all time. This stunning example was delivered new in the current and rare specification of Sierra Blue with Grey Trim in April 1965. The car is believed to have had just two owners from new, the first of which being the famous musician Joe Brown (of Joe Brown and the Bruvvers), the car remained with Mr Brown (although placed into the name of his management company) until 1985 when purchased by a Mr Forrester who would own the car from 1985 until his recent passing.
Since new the car has always been well maintained, as the comprehensive history file validates, and serviced regularly despite having only covered 52,000 miles (just over 1,000 per year) from new. The car was treated to a total restoration to concours condition in 1990 which included a multitude of chassis and bodywork and of course a repaint, in the original Sierra Blue. After another 10 years of driving the decision was taken to have the drivetrain totally rebuilt in 1999 (over a two year period) by the extremely well regarded specialists Oselli of Oxford. This work included a complete strip and rebuild of the engine with an upgrade to 4.2 litres and a conversion to run on unleaded fuel. Furthermore throughout the 2000s the car was treated to yet more mechanical expenditure by the likes of Trinity Engineering and RS Williams.
In 2013 the car received another restoration the car was stripped and repainted again in the original Sierra Blue and the car was also totally re-trimmed in Grey leather, mechanically the car was totally gone through and the engine was carefully examined and thoroughly serviced having covered just 9,000 miles since a total rebuild. Following this work the car now is in our opinion in need of absolutely nothing and is presented in stunning condition. With a fascinating documented history from new this two owner matching numbers car has always remained in its original colour combination and is offered publically for sale for the first time ever.
