Launched during October 1981's Paris Salon, Ferrari's 512i BB most notably marked the arrival of fuel injection on Ferrari's Flat-12. Replacing the familiar Weber carbs (seen on almost every previous Ferrari model) fuel injection not only improved an engine's flexibility but made it much easier to maintain as well as prolonging the lifetime of the engine. The BBi remained in production for almost three years. A few minor detail changes were made to the bodywork with clear reflectors inserted into the front bumper and supplementary driving lights now exposed in the grille. There were also new wing mirrors. 1007 fuel injected Boxers were completed of which just 43 were right-hand drive making this the rarest variation of the RHD Boxers.
This car was the final Maranello Concessionaires demonstrator and indeed one of the last 10 UK Boxers. The car was delivered in May 1984 to the dealer in Egham in Rosso with Tan seats. Having originally been a demonstrator vehicle after a short while, the car was sold and exported to Jersey where the car was used only sparingly and thus the mileage was kept down. In 1998 the car was re-imported into the U.K by previous concours winner Michael Clarke, having covered 8,800 miles it was in his own words "a nice car with obvious potential". Mr Clarke immediately set realising the cars potential, concours preparing the car with CCH Engineering, a major suspension overhaul the engine and gearbox were removed overhauled and detailed, the engine bay area was detailed and minor paint rectification was carried out, the cost of which totalled in excess of £30,000. In 1999 the car was entered into the FOC National concours. The car won its class and as such was featured in the following issue of the FOC magazine.
The current owner purchased the car in 2006 with 16,500 miles and since then has covered very few miles. The car remains in exceptional and original condition having covered a total of 16,700 miles from new and finished in its original paint and original trim. Believed to have had only three private owners form new, the car will be supplied with a fresh major and cambelt service; totally on the button, ready to be used and enjoyed at once. Without doubt this must be one of, not only the most original, but also the finest condition Boxers available.
