The 330 GT was introduced as a replacement for the 250 GTE which had been Ferrari's first series production model to offer a four-seat cockpit arrangement.

Two versions were constructed between 1964 and '67; the appropriately titled Series I and II. Produced alongside the sultry 275 GTB and exclusive 500 Superfast, the 330 GT was designed as a more comfortable and less demanding vehicle to drive. The Tipo 571 chassis frame was in many ways a close development of the frame used for the outgoing 250 GTE. A number of important revisions were made including a 50mm wheelbase extension and the inclusion of adjustable Koni shock absorbers. The Tipo 209 V12 engine developed from the enormously impressive Colombo line that dated back to 1947, the 330 GT engine had a displacement of 3967cc which helped equate to a very healthy 300bhp at 6600rpm, enough to propel the 330 GT from zero to sixty in just 6.3 seconds and onto a top speed of 150mph.

Pininfarina's bodywork featured a distinctive nose profile with twin headlights mounted in a chrome shroud making the Series I 330 GT's extremely elegant offering perhaps the most accomplished design of all the four seat V12 Ferrari's. All initially came equipped with Borrani wire wheels as standard. As you would expect for such a model, the interiors were appointed in a particularly luxurious manner, the heavily cushioned front seats being separated by a thick centre console that housed the transmission casing. There was a teak-veneered facia and classic wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, full leather being used throughout as standard. There was a generous amount of space created for rear occupants who were provided with individual bucket seats and even an ash tray!

The first showing for the Series I was during January's annual Ferrari press conference in 1964. It then publicly debuted a little later in the month at the Brussels Salon. Production continued until spring 1965. 500 examples were produced with just 43 being UK RHD. Many of the RHD cars have since been discarded or used as donor cars for replicas making them an extremely rare, desirable and affordable sixties traditional front engine V12 Ferrari. Whilst it is not known exactly how many of these UK cars still exist it is certainly a fraction of the original number built - they are a rare find indeed.

This car offered for sale, Chassis 5759, is a California supplied LHD car and was delivered new to Dudley Bell of Piedmont, California in 1964. Presented in Avorio (ivory) from new, Mr Bell sold the car in 1967 to an unknown family in Hillsborough, California. This family owned "5759" for seven years before they sold the car to a mechanic called Tano Gambrielli, who undertook a full engine rebuild, which took two years after which the vehicle was then sold on. In March 1976 a Mr Mike Cotsworth bought the newly restored 330 GT 2+2 for $5000. In just one year of owning the car Mr Cotsworth, following a re spray in silver, entered "5759" into numerous Concours events and the Virginia City Hillclimb in early 1977. In December of 1977 John Yeamens bought the car, and during his 12 years of ownership another engine rebuild was undertaken to ensure the car was in a wonderful condition.

The sixth custodian of this fine vehicle was a Mrs Camille Taylor, by the time she bought the vehicle in 1989, "5759" was now worth $130,000 with newly rebuilt wire wheels, new paint, new interior and the aforementioned engine rebuild. In late 1996 John Elliot bought the car which was presented in Argento with rosso leather interior. Mr Elliot who lived in North Hollywood oversaw a large amount of maintenance work bringing the car to an even greater standard, all of which is detailed in invoices in the cars accompanying history file and in an invaluable mileage log (also with the car).

Today the car is offered for sale in Argento with rosso leather having just benefitted from a full engine rebuild here at DK Engineering, merely 150 miles ago. Thus this excellent motorcar is ready to view, use and enjoy immediately in our showrooms just outside London.
