BMW’s launch of the Z3M in 1998 was the perfect recipe for BMW. A BMW-motorsport devised collaboration of rorty 317bhp straight-six engine pulled for the bigger-brother E36 M3 Evolution dropped into the smaller, stiffer Z3M shell.
Designed by former head of design for BMW, Chris Bangle, the Z3 coupe and Z3 M Coupe were planned to be real eye-catchers. Invoking the the roofline of BMW’s early 328 Mille Miglia, the car featured other highlights linking a great history. In 2001, the aged S50 powerplant was replaced by the venerable S54, plucked from the globally-revered E46 M3. Demand at the time was low and as such, just 168 examples were built, with 123 destined for the UK.
The S54 brought with it subtle improvements that combined made a significant difference.
On paper, the power was increased by just 3bhp and 3lb ft of torque. With the newer engine however came a much wider spread of maximum torque, available from 3,750rpm (1,650 rpm lower than the S50) resulting in much stronger mid-range performance and more linear delivery through drive-by-wire throttle. The S54B32 engine from the E46 M3 produces 321bhp at 7400rpm and 258lb/ft.
Likely to be one of the best examples of the Z3M Coupé in the UK and with just 11,500 miles recorded from new, this coupé is in superb condition. It is presented in Titanium Silver with contrasting Imola Red & Black Nappa Leather trim. A well specified car, this example benefits from heated drivers and passenger seats, air conditioning and a panoramic moon roof. Used sparingly from new and most recently with its current owner in our own storage facility, this example presents superbly and is ready for its next custodian.
With just 168 examples built in RHD, it is without doubt one of the rarest and most desirable M cars. By comparison, a total of 422 E46 M3 CSLs were built in RHD.
This Z3 M Coupé is available to view at our showrooms outside London immediately.
