Having returned to road car production with the McLaren MP4-12C kick-starting the McLaren Super Series, it was immediately looked upon to create the "new F1", a car that would once again fix the McLaren brand at the forefront of automotive performance.
Using a carbon fibre monocoque chassis and all carbon body panels, in combination with a twin-turbo V8 producing 727 brake horsepower and 720 Nm of torque, it was no slouch, however, McLarens pursuit for performance did not finish there. The creative power of McLaren added a hybrid electric motor serving to "torque fill" any gaps in peak performance of the petrol engine, allowing the driver with maximum power at all times. The electric motor produces 176 horsepower, and when combined with the twin-turbo petrol engine, maximum output is a remarkable 903 horsepower.
The astounding performance figures help accelerate the P1 from 0-60 mph in just 2.8 seconds, 0-120 in 6.8 seconds, 0-180 mph in 16.5 seconds (a whole 5 seconds faster than the F1) and ultimately reaching an electronically limited top speed of 217 mph.
This example was supplied new to a large, royal collection and delivered on 16th March 2015. Ordered new in Carbon Black, this P1 features a number of visible carbon fibre options on the body. As per the concept, this example features the exposed carbon fibre front bumper, rear bumper and door inserts. The roof is also finished in carbon fibre and both the rear deck louvres and exhaust tip benefit from the dark grey stealth finish. Silver wheels break up the shape and cover red brake callipers over the large Akebono discs. Carbon fibre mirror caps on carbon fibre mirror arms complete the exterior specification. Amazingly, this car shows plenty of visible carbon fibre weave on every single body panel, similar to a Ferrari F40, showcasing the car’s lightweight ethos.
The inside of the car follows the exterior theme. Liberal use of Carbon black leather is contrasted by Harissa red stitching. To date, this example has covered just 2,350 mi from new and presents superbly. Its history file contains several service records showing servicing on an annual basis, with its most recent 6th year service taken place by McLaren Petersfield (Lanzante) in August 2021. Replacing all filters and fluids, this also included the fitment of four new tyres, the replacement of the driver’s side rear shock absorber, rear grilles, and rectified a front crank seal leak. A rare opportunity to purchase a car from one of the world’s most significant car collections, this McLaren P1 is available for inspection immediately.
