The reference ''RS'' will quicken the pulse of Porsche connoisseurs. Models such as the legendary Carrera RS 2.7 of 1972 and the 1991 Type 964 911 RS were also sports cars that stood out on account of their extreme degree of manoeuvrability and handling. That tradition was continued with the 997 911 GT3 RS. In common with its predecessors, it provided a homologation model for use in a range of racing series.
Porsche initial 997 "Gen 1" utilised a 3.6L naturally aspirated engine which later in 2010 evolved into a "Gen 2" car powered by a naturally aspirated flat six 3.8L engine. The already impressive power output was upped to 444 bhp at 7,900 rpm. Combined with bespoke drivetrain components reserved only for the RS models such as a lightweight single-mass flywheel and close-ratio 6-speed gearbox its performance was taken to a whole new level.
The muscular-looking rear end conceals a wider track that not only improves directional stability but also increases the potential cornering grip of the two-seater coupe. The specialised widebody was furthermore subjected to a strict "RS" diet achieved by the use, amongst other solutions, of an adjustable carbon fibre wing, lightweight rear windows and a titanium exhaust system. As a consequence, the corresponding engine power to weight ratio is over 300bhp per tonne.
This rare UK supplied RHD variant was supplied originally June 2010 to its first keeper by Porsche Reading. Optioned originally in Carrara White with red decals and details, this example has been professionally altered to gloss black details by the current keeper through highly regarded marque specialist JZM Porsche.
Further options on this example include safety cage refinished in body-coloured Carrara white, single-piece fixed back Carrera GT seats, Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes, Sport Chrono Package Plus, Sound Package Plus, PSM Porsche Stability Management, Lightweight Xenon Headlights, Door Entry guards in carbon fibre, carbon fibre dashboard inserts, centre console in Carrara white.
This Gen 2 GT3 RS presents as a fantastically useable example of a car very much of the moment and certainly won't hang around long!
