With a Nurburgring Lap Time of 7mins and 10 seconds the AMG GTR set the record for the fastest Rear wheel drive production car at the legendary circuit, hardly surprising as the GTR is a technological Tour de Force from Merecedes, developed as a marriage between the already exceptional AMG GT and the GT3 race car the GTR features a huge amount of features on top of the standard car such as four-wheel steering, carbon fibre body panels, moving underbody aero elements, another 74bhp from the twin turbo V8, fully redesigned suspension, extra supports to boost torsional rigidity, exceptional nine-position traction control, adjustable coil over spring/damper units and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres. The cars Bosch 9 way adjustable traction control is still the very best system on any car, and the “MultiMatic” dampers are only found on 3 other production cars ever built.

The GTR is powered by a clever “Hot V” twin tubocharged 4 litre V8. By mounting the Turbos inside the V of the engine there is almost no noticeable lag and this sensational engine produces 577 BHP, almost 100bhp more than the equivalent 991 GT3. As well as an impressive 516lb ft @ 1900-5500rpm. This propels the car from 0 – 60 in 3.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 198 mph. The weight distribution is an impressive 47:53. In the words of Top Gear “there is no better sounding turbocharged car. The GT R makes a colossal noise, a whooping, hollering, deep V8 bellow that comes up from the very bottom of its engine block”.
