The Mercedes SLS was unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, marking the return of a Gullwing Mercedes once again. Heavily influenced by the original 300SL Gullwing the SLS’s styling captured the long stretching bonnet and rear-set cabin to create a similar but adapted shape for Mercedes 21st century supercar.
Developed entirely in house, this was the first time AMG had been given a clean sheet to build a road car from the ground up, and one with the billing that would make it something altogether more serious than a comfortable Mercedes.
The 6.2 Litre V8 which was designed specifically for Mercedes AMG models, produces a staggering 563 hp at 6,800 rpm, with 650 Nm of torque at 4,750 rpm. The SLS can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.7 seconds and can reach with ease a top speed of 197 mph.
Similar to its influencer the SLS’s body was constructed of lightweight aluminium, this time however Mercedes would break the mould by using not only an aluminium body but also an aluminium chassis.
Following on from the coupe, Mercedes introduced the roadster a year later. The gullwing doors were replaced with more traditional doors; the roof replaced with an elegant folding soft-top unit with a heated rear screen, that hides behind the seats in just 11 seconds. The upper part of the roof remains visible as part of the rear deck meaning the roadster loses just 3 litres of luggage capacity from the coupe.
First supplied on 20th December 2011, this car was optioned in the elegant and desirable combination of AMG Imola Grey over Black Designo Exclusive Leather with a red fabric soft top.
Equipped with a wealth of options as standard from the factory, this car features Climate Control, Parking sensors, keyless-go, Bi-xenon headlights and a 7” screen with satellite navigation.
This example features the sporting 7-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels in Titanium grey and was additionally optioned with the desirable AirScarf technology, warming the occupants through the headrests on cooler top-down drives.
Benefitting from a comprehensive and thorough main dealer service history from new, it has no fewer than 6 services importantly carried out within the suggested windows. Receiving a larger, ‘B’ service earlier this year, this SLS Roadster has been particularly well cared for and presents ready to go and to be enjoyed by its new owner complete with a fresh set of tyres.
Used regularly but sparingly throughout its life, this example has covered just 12,500 miles from new. It is available to view at our showrooms just outside London immediately.
