Ferrari 308 GT4 (1976)

The GT4 was a revolutionary design for Ferrari. Launched in 1973 using the same Dino nomenclature as other non-V12 cars, the 308 GT4 was the first mid-engined V8 production car to leave the factory. May 1976 brought the second series of cars, with Ferrari badging which would continue until the model’s replacement in 1980 by the Mondial. The mid-engined V8 layout originating with the GT4 would continue to sell as the core of the company’s business to the current day. Unlike all Ferraris before, this was also the first production Ferrari to receive its styling from Marcello Gandini and Bertone instead of Pininfarina.

Enzo Ferrari played a heavy role in developing the car, having a mock-up made to test different seating, steering and pedal options. The chassis was developed with the help of factory works driver, Niki Lauda. The 3.0 litre transverse V8 was couple to a 5-speed transaxle gearbox. The car produced 255hp through 4 Weber 40 DCNF carbs.

Delivered new in 1976 in Argento Auteuil over Bordeaux, this 308 GT4 benefits from an incredible history file, extensively and comprehensively cared for over the past twenty five years in the main by DK Engineering with no regard for expense. The first owner was the supplier; Bavarian Garages of Belfast, to which it would return for its first three services. Purchased by its second owner in September 1981, the car would see annual services by a marque specialist in Lincoln. The car was then purchased its third and current owner in 1985. Today it has covered just 28,300 miles.

Fresh from a recent major service including cambelts and tyres all round as well as a full mechanical check over with ourselves, this 308 GT4 presents on the button as a thoroughly original and well cared for example.
