The names "Porsche" and "Speedster" instantly call to mind one of the most exciting and sought after models ever produced by the German automaker, a simpler, stripped down roadster version of the Porsche 356.
Fast forward 30 more years, and the "Speedster" name was to be revived by what is one of the most exclusive Porsche models ever produced, the Porsche 911 Carrera Speedster. Offered over a single year of manufacturing in 1989, just 2,104 examples were produced, featuring the low cut wind shield reminiscent of the original, and the quintessential fiberglass tonneau cover with twin humps. Like its predecessor the 911 Speedster was stripped down of luxuries utilising manual windows, removal of the rear seats, and even using a minimal single-layer fabric top for emergencies.
Cut from the same cloth as the immensely popular 3.2 Carrera from 1984, the Speedster was fitted with a rear mounted, air cooled flat-six producing 231 horsepower at 5900 rpm, accelerating the car from 0-60mph in just 5.4 seconds with a top speed of 152 mph. Power-assisted and ventilated disc brakes were mounted at all four corners, with an 11.8-inch diameter in the front and a 12.1-inch diameter in the rear.
This "C16" UK supplied Turbo Bodied example offered for sale by DK Engineering, is one of only 139 RHD models produced and was delivered to its first private owner Dr A Harris in July, 1989. Specified in Baltic Blue Metallic over a Blue and Cream Hide interior with Cream piping. The most extensive list of options applied from new include Turbo look body, sports seats left and right with electrical height adjustment, amplifier, intensified windscreen washer, Headlamp washers, cassette-radio Blaupunkt Toronto SQR 46, and luggage compartment in velour carpet.
During Dr Harris' ownership the car was kept as his most prized possession and serviced only via main dealer. Remarkably the Speedster gathered just 328 Miles before being sold in November, 1993 to Mr Mathew Smith. Mr Smith would only keep the car for several months before selling it to its longest standing owner Mr Allan Peter Campbell in March, 1994.
Mr Campbell maintained the car with no expense spared and had the car looked after via Main Porsche Centres for the majority of his ownership. In August, 2006 Mr David Mather Craggs subsequently purchased the car with circa 19,135 Miles showing on the odometer. Mr Craggs was again another fastidious owner of the Speedster and maintained via main dealer and well respected specialists.
Its most recent owner purchased the car in September, 2011 with just 21,975 Miles and has since cared for the car with equal nature to its previous owners. During his ownership it has been maintained via Porsche Centre Cambridge with no expense spared, most recently receiving a service in June of this year and as such presents "on the button".
Remarkably he has covered under 750 Miles during this ownership period, today resulting in a total mileage of just 22,700 Miles from new. Accompanied by its complete and original bookpack, (including service book with no less than 19 service stamps!) spare key, spare wheel and jack and a superb history file. The cars condition is truly spectacular, combined with its RHD specification and stunning originality, this 930 Speedster is ready to be enjoyed by its new owner immediately. Viewings are available at our showroom, which is based just outside London.
